Ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam

Here is a glimpse into "noon recreation" with the novitiate!

Sr. Deepa received a heavy box in the mail from an unknown person! Who? On opening it she found packages of delicious homemade cookies—chocolate chip, ginger snaps, snicker doodles, and oatmeal— from a reader of her blog which she had while "in the world", as we say here in the monastery! Many thanks, Julie! We loved it!

Coming on our prioral election day it was a welcome surprise! (No matter what the day it was a welcome surprise!) We all enjoyed these yummy cookies! We made sure that they were kept up on the refrigerator for awhile so that the calories would fall out! What? You didn't know that calories don't like heights!

About the video: that's Gary, our workman, in the background in the kitchen scene getting his lunch. Shortly after, the sisters went out for a walk and met up with Sr. Mary Elizabeth and Sr. Maria Concepcion. And that critter at the end? That's Allen, one of our new bunnies!

We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes glimpse.

Calories are a measure of heat energy, you know, so refrigerating cookies actually does reduce the calories. (That's also why cold beer is better for you than warm beer.)

Thanks for the video, Sisters! It's wonderful.

Not sure which was my favorite part:

"It's broken!"

or

"The Lord hit me over the head..."

LOL! Thank you again!

Dear Sisters,
Your blog raises a question. There is no mention of extern sisters. I see extern sisters listed in other Dominican monasteries.
Do today's extern sisters profess the same vows?

Few of our Dominican monasteries have extern sisters and we have decided not to have externs as the norms for enclosure allow the nuns to go out for necessary business but more than that we have a wonderful guild of women, The Rosary Shrine volunteers, who take care of our front office, do driving for us, shopping, etc.
We can always use new members so if you are in our area do consider joining! For many of the woman their monthly 1/2 day at the monastery is like a retreat day for them.

Extern sisters do not make Solemn Profession but Perpetual Profession. While they live inside with the community the extent of their participation in the government of the monastery is also different and this from monastery to monastery.

Dear Sisters,
Thanks for the information. I'd love to come and visit or volunteer but I live in Florida and I seldom go north.
Again, thanks.
